The era of above ground nuclear testing.
Between 1952 and 1962 Britain carried out nuclear weapons tests in the South Pacific Ocean. At the turn of 1956 thousands of young men on National Service duty were sent out to Christmas Island in the South Pacific during this brutal 10 year period of nuclear weapons testing. Many of the H-Bombs were detonated within a 30 mile radius of Christmas Island.
